When might you use the word “magnificent”?
Would you use the word magnificent to describe a royal pageant; or the Sistine Chapel or the Shard in London; the Colosseum in Italy, or the natural Amphitheatre in the Drakensburg mountains of South Africa; Mohammed Ali in the ring or Richard Wagner’s The Ring; a gnarled, ancient olive tree or a beautiful woman?
Awe and wonder
That which we find magnificent is breath-taking. Awe-inspiring. We respond with an inner “wow”. With wonder and amazement. There is splendor, grandeur and sublimity in magnificence. We are taken a little closer to God. And that’s really the point. For a short moment in time, we are delivered from mundanity. Our individual sense of self is temporarily transcended. We meet the divine.
I believe the very fact that each one of us has breath and life makes us magnificent. We are inherently valuable and inherently magnificent.
Even a blade of grass
The moment one gives close attention to anything, even a blade of grass becomes a mysterious, awesome, indescribably magnificent world in itself.
Henry Miller, author
And a grain of sand
The poet William Blake also saw and sought out magnificence.
To see a world in a grain of sand And heaven in a wildflower Hold infinity in the palm of your hand And eternity in an hour.
Alive Wire Wisdom Circle
In our Alive Wire Wisdom Circle, last Sunday, we explored the wisdom theme of magnificence. We used quite a complex piece of classical music to experience what it is to relax the mind and surrender to magnificence.
There is wisdom in aligning to that which is already here.
This was our premise for the week.
Why is this important?
Think of your magnificence as your fullest expression. The freest version of yourself. Powerful, wise, loving, awake and whole. If you are not owning your magnificence, you are likely living out a limited, restricted version of yourself.
I spent so many years of my life doing this. Expressing myself partially. Doubting and judging myself. Living in contradiction to my truth. Taking things personally. Too scared to shine. Over time, I realized that it is only our conditioning that clouds the truth. Life is sacred and each one of us is magnificent.
Seeing through a distorted lens
Most of us have thoroughly distorted views of ourselves. We do not believe we are in any way magnificent. Or we believe that believing we are magnificent will make us arrogant. In fact, when we see the extraordinary beauty, design and intelligence at play in nature, in the cosmos, in ourselves, we can’t fail to be humbled.
We don’t need to work hard to become more magnificent or try to polish our magnificence. It is fully accessible. It is part of our true nature. We simply need to allow our natural magnificence, aliveness and intelligence to shine through. The problem is that it’s not that simple. It’s much easier to hide out and play small.
Extraordinary times
I believe we are living in a time of extraordinary transition. There is a sense of urgency. We want to participate more fully. We want to step up. We want to be of service. Undermining ourselves is no longer an option.
The truth is we are both human and divine.
We are both messy and magnificent.
Here are four steps that can help you own more of your magnificence
- Relax the mind
- Let go of the hard work and unnecessary doing
- Practice self-acceptance
- Tune in and align to that which is already in existence.
Here’s what was said about Alive Wire Wisdom Circle last week...
“I absolutely love what you have created. Alive Wire is structured and surprising. It’s like a treasure hunt. I never know what you are going to share/lead us into next. It creates intrigue, it’s refreshing, it’s heartfelt, guided and simply delicious. Thank you for inviting me into your beautiful creation.”
...and the week before
“I really enjoyed the collective wisdom sharing. There were many open and in-depth shares. Thank you and well done for bringing this circle together.”
“I feel blessed to be part of this journey and to learn so much from it for myself. We don’t give ourselves time to think, ponder, reflect, or make sense of things. There are few spaces that allow for a person to speak freely and find out, in being witnessed, what is true for them. Alive Wire Wisdom Circle does all this.”
“We had a fabulous discussion. Your wisdom themes are always so spot on and I get to carry the essence of this throughout the entire week.”
